Born in Boston on April 16, 1879, Gertrude Fiske is the daughter of a lawyer and his wife, and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Fiske becomes a member of the Boston School of painters, and is the first woman appointed to the Massachusetts Art Commission in 1922. A founder of the Guild of Boston Artists and Boston Society of Etchers, she subsequently maintains studios on the Riverway and at Fenway Studios, and also paints in Ogunquit, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Fiske dies in Weston in 1961.
